In December 2020, Erin Jeffords was awarded the Billy Webster Award through Senior Resources. This award is given to those individuals that exemplify the spirit of giving.

The following statement was provided upon Erin’s receipt of the award:

β€œYou were nominated for this award for your orchestrated efforts to support and find support for Senior Resources. Your service to go above and beyond for our Meals on Wheels clients with care bags to stimulate their heart, body, and mind to prevent falls, your consistent service to deliver meals, and your leadership to raise awareness of our programming with your students is greatly appreciated and recognized.”

Erin has facilitated service-learning opportunities with the students at Lenoir-Rhyne University for the past three years. Over 100 students have committed their time in service to community-dwelling older adults throughout the Columbia, SC, area. Her vision is to recreate the opportunities she was afforded as a graduate student at MUSC while demonstrating the value of service-learning to her current OT students. Erin recognizes that service-learning differs from volunteer work in that service-learning entails doing β€œwith” vs β€œfor” individuals and organizations. Her students learn to work collaboratively with the stakeholders they serve to improve cultural sensitivity, decrease social isolation, and promote partnerships between occupational therapy students and community service organizations.

SCOTA Congratulates you!
